|
When you come to a donor registry drive, we will explain what it means to join the registry, help you understand your commitment, answer your questions and help you through the process.
All you need to do is:
Complete a registration form with contact information, health information and a signed agreement to join the Be The Match Registry. To help you complete the form, bring along:
Personal identification (such as a driver's license or passport)
Contact information for two family members or friends who would know how to reach you in the future if your contact information changes.
Give either a swab of cheek cells or a blood sample to be tissue-typed. We'll use the results to match you to patients.
Please also consider making a financial gift to the Be The Match Foundation. Your generous contribution in any amount is tax-deductible and helps make it possible for others to join.
That's it! You'll be listed on our registry where patients turn when they need a matching donor.

Hearts and Saddles by Rick Favinger
|
Pikes Peak Historical Society
|
|
Handmade saddles are a labor of love, just ask saddlemaker Rick Favinger. In fact, you are invited to join Favinger on Sunday, February 14 at the Florissant Library when he will share his stories and techniques of saddle making.
Favinger began leather craft 30 years ago as a hobby while he was stationed overseas with the Marines. He later moved to Lake George with his wife, Tonya in 2001. In 2002, he joined Colorado Saddle Makers Association and began making saddles in earnest. Favinger spent four years serving as the Southeast Director of Colorado Saddle Makers Association. At his business, Buckstitch Saddlery, Favinger specializes in making handmade saddles and other cowboy gear. He was born in Kansas but his parents brought him to Colorado Springs when he was three. However, he still spent summers working with his uncle in Kansas on a haying crew which instilled a love of the cowboy culture.
Favinger recently completed a renovation of a late 1800s Heiser saddle (from the Mueller Ranch) for the Pikes Peak Historical Society Museum. This saddle will be at the heart of his presentation, which will include demonstrations of the historic tools used in the craft. “Hearts and Saddles” is presented as a public service by the Pikes Peak Historical Society. It will take place at the new Florissant Library on February 14th at 2:00 pm. Refreshments are provided. Florissant is located 35 miles west of Colorado Springs on Highway 24, and the Florissant Library is located at 334 Circle Drive, adjacent to the Florissant Park. For more information, call 748-3562.

The U.S. Federal Population Census enumerated the residents of each state every decade beginning in 1790, with 1930 being the most recent census available. These records are essential to researching one’s family history, and until recently, were sometimes only available at distant libraries and only on microfilm. Today, many of these census records can be searched or browsed via the Internet from home. Learn how to use this resource effectively. Basic computer skills are required.
